Roof Repair After Hail Damage

Posted On: August 26, 2014

Have you ever noticed little granules from your shingles sitting in your eaves trough after a particularly bad hail storm? This is an example of the kind of hail damage that will eventually lead to a roof replacement needing to be done. If you can identify and fix the damage with simple roof repair, that’s going to be better and cheaper in the long run.

How to Identify Signs of Significant Hail Damage

There are several things to watch for when inspecting your roof to determine if hail damage needs roof replacement, or if a simple roof repair will be enough. These include:

  • Bruising, or dark spots, on shingles
  • Denting on metal roofs
  • Granules under downspout

Roof repair is a much cheaper way of dealing with hail damage, so it’s important to check for any damage that may have been done during any hail storm. If the damage is over a large area of your roof, it may require full replacement.

Roof Repair or Replacement?

While it may look bad, your roof may not actually need to undergo a full roof replacement. Many homeowners are lucky enough to get away with only needing roof repair services after hail storms cause hail damage to their roof.

Depending upon just how much damage there is to your roof from the hail storm, you may need to replace your roof. A good rule of thumb to know whether you’ll need roof repair or replacement is to see how much of the roof is damaged by the hail. If it’s more than half of your roof that has been damaged, you should ask us when we get there if it needs replacement instead of only roof repair.

Patio Sliding Door Options

Are you planning a patio project? Will you be wanting a new patio sliding door? How about trying French patio doors? Maybe you’d even like to splurge on a lovely new set of custom built doors, to perfectly match your home’s décor.

When you’re preparing your home for summer (AKA party-season), with renovations, new paint, spring cleaning, and putting in that garden you’ve been planning, one of the bigger decisions you’ll have to make is what type of patio door you’ll be installing, to make the perfect first impression.

French Patio Doors

Incorporating the use of glass window panes, French patio doors are a very popular option. They can be made as swinging patio doors, a French patio sliding door, or as double doors. The use of glass panes in the French patio doors allows for:

  • A smoother transition between the indoors and outdoors
  • A lovely view of the patio from the interior of your house
  • The ability to keep an eye on the happenings inside, while enjoying the peace of the patio

Contemporary Patio Sliding Doors

Made completely out of glass, these patio sliding doors allow for no visual obstructions to the outdoors. They slide easily on a track, and can be made as custom built doors or chosen from a large selection of pre-made doors.

Not only do contemporary patio sliding doors offer no visual obstructions—as with other sliding doors, they also allow for more freedom in decoration, compared to hinged doors. You can:

  • Place your furniture as close to the door as you’d like
  • Hang a variety of window dressings for shade and decoration
  • Choose between different styles of contemporary patio sliding doors

No longer are they thick, heavy doors that used to get stuck on their tracks; contemporary sliding patio doors are now lighter, sleeker, and easier to use. Opting for your patio sliding doors to be custom built doors, you can have further freedom, including freedom of size, style, and number of panels.
